Northern Ireland Population Estimates 2024

Some datasets can't be refreshed manually do to the nature of the content and source, Population estimates are one of those. The population estimates for 2024 have been appended to the northern_ireland_population_estimate table.

Key Observations:

• Coverage: The 2024 data covers 3,780 output areas across Northern Ireland
• Granularity: Data is available at the Output Area level, the smallest census geography unit
• Scale: Northern Ireland has significantly fewer output areas (8,317 total) compared to England & Wales (194,822), reflecting its smaller population
• Density Variation: There's considerable variation in area sizes, ranging from 108 to 2,623 people, with an average of ~510

This data is excellent for demographic analysis, market sizing, and understanding population distribution at a very granular geographic level.

Note that NI has renamed their Output areas in the 2024 release, these are available in the ref_spine_2025 table.
